Course Description

Aroma 101 provides students with an in-depth understanding of the history and uses of essential oils including basic methods of administration and therapeutic actions of each of the oils studied. Students learn to discuss aromatherapy including its history and development as well as identify and safely use 19 essential oils, from Bergamot Citrus aurantium var. bergamia to Ylang Ylang Cananga odorata.

Upon completion of Aroma 101, students will be able to create a blend and choose from a range of carrier oils.  Students also begin to learn how to assess the quality of essential oils and understand the primary production methods. Quality assessment and therapeutic uses are studied further in the advanced aromatherapy courses, Aroma 203, Aroma 303 and Aroma 304, taken as part of the Certificate in Aromatherapy.
