Wellness Coaching & Communication Skills Online

Overview

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective wellness coaches and communicators in diverse healthcare and wellness settings. Through an interdisciplinary approach, students will explore principles of coaching psychology, behavior change theories, communication strategies, ethical and legal considerations essential for facilitating positive health outcomes and empowering individuals to achieve their wellness goals. Emphasis will be placed on developing practical coaching techniques, active listening skills, motivational interviewing, and culturally sensitive communication approaches to foster meaningful connections and facilitate sustainable lifestyle changes. Students will engage in supervised coaching practice sessions, receive constructive feedback, and participate in self-reflection exercises to enhance their coaching and communication skills.

Learning Outcomes

  • Compare and contrast coaching strategies on motivation and change implementation.

  • Predict obstacles that clients may face when making lifestyle changes.

  • Plan wellness coaching protocols that demonstrate cultural competence and assessment of individual client needs.

  • Apply appropriate health professionals’ scope of practice, code of ethics, and regulatory requirements based on specialization.

  • Develop essential components of effective listening skills to apply in coaching sessions.

  • Conduct volunteer client health coaching sessions to practice coaching skills that develop trust, confidence, and rapport in client relationships.

Admissions Requirements:

Candidates must possess a baccalaureate degree or higher from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education. Candidates must submit official transcripts directly from the issuing institution along with one professional letter of recommendation. All applicants must be recommended for admission by the ACHS Admissions Committee.
